Consider these tips for dining out in Hong Kong:
1. Dine at QTS restaurants. When you see a QTS sign displayed in a Hong Kong restaurant, you can expect a clean and hygienic environment, quality food, excellent customer service, and clear prices on menus.
2. Make a reservation. Don't let the local crowd bump you from your dining choice. Reserve your space for nights, lunchtime (1pm-2pm), and weekend dining.
3. Dress appropriately. While informal attire is acceptable in most eating establishments, there may be specific dress requirements at finer restaurants. Ask about the dress code upon reservation. A light sweater or jacket may be necessary, as most places are air-conditioned.
4. Service charges and added charges. At most Hong Kong restaurants a 10% service charge is added to the bill. Ask your waiter about these and any additional charges before being seated. Be aware that is not uncommon for them to serve you non-ordered items such as tea, condiments, and snacks for which you will be charged.
5. Credit card purchases. Contact your credit card issuer to find out if they incur a currency-exchange fee on purchases overseas.
